i went to a dealership to trade my vehicle. due to the negative equity the dealer said it would be a good idea to buy a new car today and give my current vehicle back to my current lender. i have never heard of anything such as this before, and wondered if anyone else had either.

The following is from
http://www.usnews.com/money/personal-finance/retirement/articles/2008/06/19/should-you-pay-off-your-mortgage-before-you-retire.html
"The interest you pay on your home mortgage is tax deductible on up to million in debt. You can also typically write off interest on up to 0,000 of home-equity debt. But you benefit from this tax perk only if all your itemized tax deductions, including your mortgage interest, add up to more than the standard deduction that almost everyone gets automatically….. Jonathan Pond, a financial planner and author of Grow Your Money! 101 Easy Tips to Plan, Save, and Invest, argues that you need to be in the 35 percent tax bracket, or make at least 0,000 annually, for the tax break to be worthwhile. Most Americans in the 25 percent tax bracket might pay, say, ,000 in mortgage interest but save only ,500 in taxes."
If I pay ,000 in mortgage interst but only save ,500, that seems nonsmart to me. Is the above quote correct?

We have simply grown apart and I’m terribly unhappy. We had a small business get taken down by the current economic conditions and I am simply asking him to split our debts in half and allow him to walk away with his 401k, his full retirement and all of his social security. He’s worked for the same company for nearly 20 years and has built a fairly sizeable amount. All I’m asking for is to keep the house which has little to no equity so the kids can remain in their home. I have NOT asked him to pay anything towards the house payment and have requested NO allimony and have asked that child support be the minimal allowed. He is very upset and is an emotional wreck and I fear he may have a nervous breakdown. He says that if we split he is "broken" and will simply quit his job and forfeit on his part of the debt which was in both our names. I can not refinance the home and I know if I were to miss payments it would hurt his credit but my fear is that he does simply quit his job and not pay his part of our debt and then the creditors will come after me. I honestly believe in the state of mind he’s in he will quit working and he won’t care what happens to his credit. He’s been in a very stressful job that he’s wanted to leave for years but in order to pay these debts he’ll have to keep it. What happens if he does not pay his part? The loans are in both of our names and I’ve been told that if he forfeits since we entered into the debt together we’re still BOTH responsible

My husband and I owe about K on our house. Before we got married, he took a K second mortgage on the house to pay for graduate school. We are only paying the interest on the 2nd mortgage, at about 0 a month. We are planning to sell in two years and we’ll list the house for about 0K. My question is, do we continue paying just the interest on the 2nd mortagage and pay it off when we sell, or should we start making larger payments off the balance? Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!!!
We put a decent amount into savings a month, and retirement each year. I’ve been going back and forth over paying more towards the balance of the 2nd, or paying more towards credit cards that have a low interest rate.
